Ms. Kimberly Miller
Welcome to Credit Recovery!
This is my first year with West Florence High School and I am VERY happy to be a part of the West Florence team!
I began teaching high school in January, 2005 for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, Department of Juvenile Justice, in Southern California. While teaching in the probation camps and juvenile halls, I taught a variety of high school subjects including English, math, history, science, and English Language Development (ELD). I held an after school literacy club, implemented a dorm library, and was a liasion for the Borrowed Voices poetry program.
In January, 2013, I began teaching for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, California’s state prison system. I had a morning and an afternoon class of 27 adult inmates in each class. I taught Adult Basic Education III as well as the GED program. During my years with the CDCR, I was a member of the Academic Education Leadership Committee (AELC) in Sacramento.
Most recently, I taught for an amazing charter school in California, Learn4Life. L4L has schools in California, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, and most recently North Charleston. I wore several hats while teaching with L4L. I was the Literacy Intervention teacher, an English teacher, the SLAM hip hop poetry teacher, and also a supervising teacher. In addition, I was the HOPE program facilitator responsible for guiding our pregnant and parenting teens through their high school program. We received extensive training and pratice in trauma-informed schooling, restorative justice, Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
My leadership experience includes Lead Teacher/Administrator, instructional coach, and intervention specialist. In addition, I have worked in curriculum writing and development and assessment data analysis.
I look forward to a wonderful school year here at West Florence! We have a lot of work to do, are you ready?? I sure am!
